Carlo Crocco left Briel watchmaking with the Italian Binda Group in 1976, moved to Switzerland and founded the innovative Swiss watch brand. Hublot was launched in 1980. In May of 2004, Jean-Claude Biver was named CEO of Hublot. Jean-Claude Biver has contributed many ideas for developing the brand. By 2006, just two years later, his ideas and marketing skills had quadrupled sales! Biver defines his marketing strategy as “concentration in diversity”, meaning going where the potential clients are. He advocates investing a lot of energy in sponsoring and partnership in various fields. One of the most significant contributions he made was relaunching “The Art of Fusion”. He loved the idea of the original watch, designed with gold and natural rubber. Jean-Claude Biver took the idea further to encompass Swiss watches made with gold and ceramic, tantalum and red gold, magnesium and titanium, etc. The fusion concept has been a huge success for the Swiss watchmaking brand but still, 30% of demand remains with the classic design. Carlo Crocco sold Hublot to LVMH, a world-leading French luxury goods group, in April of 2008. The group has wisely kept Jean-Claude Biver’s brilliant marketing mind on board as CEO. Hublot watches are described as a fusion of traditional Swiss watchmaking and modern watchmaking art. The first watch, designed by Crocco, was made with gold and natural rubber. The rubber used is quite innovative and is said to regenerate over time when in contact with skin. The name, Hublot, is derived after the French word for port-hole. These timepieces are distinguished by port-hole shaped watch cases, simplistic black dial and the black rubber strap. Hublot watches and Jean-Claude Biver have been universally recognized for their brilliant work and innovation. In 2007, Biver was named Best Watchmaking Manager and Best Communicator in survey of watchmaking journalists in Business Montres magazine. Also, he earned 5th place in Entrepreneur of the Year by Handleszeitung, a Swiss economic weekly publication. In 2008, he was named CEO of the year at Jewellery and pens Awards in Bahrain and 2008 Leader of the Year by the Swiss PME magazine. Mag Bang was awarded Best Technological Innovation in Bahrain. Ceramic Sacs Louis Vuitton Gold Big Bang won Best Watch by Caesar magazine. Big Bang Purple Carat was awarded second prize in Ladies Watch category at the 6th Nuit de l’Horlogerie in Gevena and it also won Ladies Watch at the Jewellery and pens Awards in Bahrain and Ladies Chronograph in Reveue des Montres in Paris.
