"How to Write Zapatillas Air Jordan 12 Baratas a New Book for the Bible" is not a title that would ordinarily compel me to see a new play. But having seen Bill Cain's ingenious "Equivication" at the Geffen a few seasons back, I felt his latest effort (which runs through Nov. 18 at South Coast Repertory) was worth checking out. My hunch was richly rewarded.
"Bible" is a smart and funny new play that exemplifies what SCR does best. It's an autobiographical piece about life and death and family, focused around Cain's mother, Mary, and her losing battle with cancer. It's a must-see for anyone who cares about theatre-and believes in its healing powers-but it's not an easy play to watch, especially for anyone with aging or recently deceased parents. It also runs a bit long, but that's a minor kvetch.
Kent Nicholson attentively directs a tight-knit ensemble of four. Tyler Pierce (as Bill, the narrator), Aaron Blakely (his brother, Paul), and Jeff Biehl (Pete, the father) offer fine-tuned portrayals, but there's no question the play belongs to SCR vet Linda Gehringer (Mary, the mother), who graces the stage with one of the best and most vivid wangzangcen10/25 performances you'll see this year. Scott Bradley's scenic design is striking but unobtrusive. Call 714-708-5555 for tix.
Hot tip: One of my favorite directors is reviving one of my favorite playwrights' most popular plays this weekend. That would be Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll House," as interpreted by Leonard Pronko at Pomona College's Seaver Theatre in Claremont. Nov. (Not getting the emails? Keep in mind I post about 2-3 times a week). You can also share this article with your facebook/twitter friends by clicking the appropriate buttons above.
Also, remember that the only pair of Jordans to come with a Jumpman keychain were the Jordan 1's, so if it's anything other than a Jordan I and comes with that keychain, just say no.
Also, do you homework as to when the production date was. If you know that Jordan shoe was last made in 2002, and the shoe has a production date of 2005, you know it's a fake. Keep in mind the Jordan retro dates as Zapatillas Air Jordan 3 Baratas well.
Quality will also be a big indicator. Air Jordans have always emphasized quality in craftsmanship, so if the shoes are falling apart or seem cheap, they probably are not real. Also, check out the logo. Is it a bit deformed or off in some way. Producers of fake shoes don't emphasize quality too much so it should be pretty obvious really.
