Not many people know this but the famous UK brand, the Hunter Wellington Boots, was actually started by an American entrepreneur named Henry Lee Norris. Red Original Adjustable Calf WelliesHe moved from the US to Scotland in the 1800s and started his boot company in Castle Silk Mills in Edinburgh. His company was originally named the North British Rubber Company but later changed to what is now called Hunter Boot Limited. The humble company has now grown from four employees to over 600 staff worldwide.

Hunter Wellingtons are a weatherproof boot suitable for wet weather wear. They did not become very popular until World War I and II when the company was asked to construct sturdy boots for soldiers to wear in extreme battle conditions in combat and in flooded trenches. From that point onwards, the Hunter Boots have become synonymous with quality and reliability. The company now makes many different styles of Wellington boots. In recent years, sales of the Hunter Boots have skyrocketed with sightings of famous celebrities, such as Princess Diana, Nicole Richie, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Moss, wearing Hunter Boots. Hunter Boots have even been worn by celebrity kids including Suri Cruise (daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes).

Despite the good brand and record sales, Hunter Boot went into administration in 2006 due to high manufacturing and fuel costs. Like many UK companies, Hunter has had to move it's operations to Eastern Europe and Asia to keep costs down and return to being a profitable company.
