you've got a chilly -- they are a few of the health mantras, often according to official advice, that many people live and eat.
Yet some health experts not only question these -- they do the opposite.
Ideas asked several leading experts what health 'rules' they choose not to follow...
DENTIST WHO DOESN'T Make use of an ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH

Many dentists say an electrical toothbrush is the most effective way to wash the teeth.
But it's easier to make use of a manual one, says Luke Cascarini, a consultant oral surgeon in the North-West London NHS Hospital Trust and BMI The Sloane Hospital -- he says electric brushes lull you right into a false sense of security so you just insert them in your mouth and allow them to do the work.
'This can lead to areas being neglected,' he says. 'At least having a manual toothbrush, that we use, you can feel yourself brushing the teeth and getting into all of the areas -- especially in which the tooth meets the gum.
'If you need to do this for 2 minutes, you will be brushing at least as well, otherwise better than by having an electrical toothbrush.'

CHIROPRACTOR WHO USES ICE NOT HEAT FOR BACKACHE
The standard advice is to use heat on the affected area but Tim Hutchfull, of the British Chiropractic Association, prefers ice.
'There's a misconception that ice reduces blood flow and thus could make inflammation and pain worse,' he says. 'In fact, it will the alternative.'
Heat may aggravate inflammation and effectively result in the pain worse.
'Heat increases blood circulation by making the arteries dilate, and this can reduce fits. However the purpose of these spasms would be to protect the injured and inflamed joint.
'If you are taking the protective spasm you're ready to may further injure the joint. The pain and spasm may subside for an hour or so simply to get worse as you inflame it more.'
By contrast, he says, ice numbs the region and constricts the blood vessels, which squeezes the compounds that cause inflammation.
The arteries then dilate again, allowing new blood to pump towards the area and reduce pain and inflammation.
DIETITIAN WHO DOESN'T DRINK LITRES OF WATER

The ecu Food Safety Authority recommends women have 1.6 litres -- about eight glasses -- of fluid a day; for men it's 2 litres (ten glasses).
Many take this to mean water but independent dietitian Dr Sarah Schenker says it's fluid not water that's important.
'So I do not force myself to drink lots of Leptin Green Coffee 800 water -- there are plenty of ways in which we count fluid now, including soup, tea and coffee.
'There's a thought that coffee make the body to lose fluid.
'In fact, coffee is really a stimulant that creates a desire to visit the loo -- but it is not really a diuretic which makes you produce more urine.
'So you won't be losing any more fluid than if you were drinking water.'
