A new article on Find the Edge argues that businesspeople are failing to exploit social media properly, wasting valuable time on it without adding value to their business.Manchester (PRWEB UK) 26 April 2013

Using social media ineffectively is costing companies money, and seeing them miss opportunities to network and market their services to a wider audience, according to a new article on business website Find the Edge.

Written by award winning author, Heather Townsend, the article highlights the reasons why social media can be a drain on time, and explains the best techniques for using it positively.

She said: "In a similar way to face-to-face networking events, it’s easy to waste time achieving very little online. Using social media badly can suck up time without providing much, if any, value.

"As a result, it’s important to be picky about where you spend your time online. You’ll reap the best rewards by limiting yourself to a maximum of three different discussion groups."

Among other issues, she points out why automatically posting messages is rarely a good tactic, as well as the importance of ingraining good social media use into a daily routine, and using it in accordance with the overall business strategy.

Townsend also suggests using Twitter lists to save time. She said: "There’s a lot of people talking on Twitter, and lists can help you filter out the background noise.

"Rather than wasting time scrolling through your entire timeline, create lists, and only add people who are important to them.

"If time’s against you, you can simply check the list that contains your most important people."
