The Dyet family is involved in their local Scouting District in a number of ways: Shelley Dyet is the Troop Leader for the 12th Cambridge Scout Group and Deputy Area Commissioner of Program & Special Events for the South Waterloo Area, Battlefields Council, Canada; daughters Laura and Jessica are Rover Scouts, a group for young adults, and son, Tyler is a Venture Scout, the group designated for mid to late teenagers. Commenters on Shields' site slammed the stunt as "disgusting", "offensive" and "deeply stupid and pretentious".



"This is incredibly insensitive to those in financial need, and, frankly, an embarrassment for the both of you.



This is not artistry; it's a pathetic attempt at shock value," wrote one reader.



Said one, "Go and work for a living and see if you burn a 100k bag. Hell you wouldnt even be burning a 50 dollar bag. That is NOT art losers."

But some defended the expensive stunt.

Hermès International is to appoint Axel Dumas to succeed Patrick Thomas as chief executive of the Paris-based maker of silk scarves, returning the reins of the 175-year-old group to a family member.



Mr Dumas, 42, chief operating officer, will become co-chief executive alongside the 64-year-old Mr Thomas at the company's annual meeting next June, before Mr Thomas's planned retirement at the end of 2013.



The succession planning, disclosed at the group's annual meeting in Paris on Tuesday, clears up a key uncertainty for the family-controlled company, which closed ranks in the face of the sudden entry in 2010 into its capital of LVMH,new cosmetic bag the luxury goods group controlled by Bernard Arnault, France's richest man.

Mr Thomas said at Tuesday's meeting that he was "very confident" for 2012 after record net profit of 594.3m in 2011. He said the continuing eurozone crisis was a concern, as was the constraint on the group's productive capacity imposed by the need to train artisans.



Separately, Emile Hermès Sarl, the Hermès-family holding company, said Henri-Louis Bauer, its 46-year-old deputy chairman, would replace Bertrand Puech as chairman.

Kansas appeals court upheld one Miles conviction

Six months before Ray Anthony Miles was arrested this week for stabbing two TV station employees,bicycle saddles the Kansas Court of Appeals upheld the conviction of Miles for the misdemeanor battery of a state law enforcement officer as he raised a ruckus in the Kansas Attorney General's Office.



Miles was arrested Wednesday after two employees at the WIBW-TV station were stabbed by a man who broke through a glass security door to enter the station. WIBW employees subdued the man.



The violence broke out after the station's news director declined to do a news story about an issue the man said he was having with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.



The Shawnee County District Attorney's Office has charged Miles with two counts of aggravated battery and one count each of aggravated burglary, making a criminal threat, battery and criminal damage to property.
