Natural Snowflakes

Check the Guide to Snowflakes to see what kinds of crystals fall from the sky. And don't miss the 12-sided snowflakes at Unusual Forms.

Designer Snowflakes

We grow our own "designer" snowflakes in the lab year-round, right here in sunny Southern California. It's part of our ongoing research into the physics of crystal growth and pattern formation.

AIBO(ERS-7M3)

2005年11月28日(月) 9時28分
AIBO’s personality develops by interacting with people and each AIBO grows in a different way, based on its individual experiences. AIBO becomes customized based on feedback and the software being used.

The more you interact with ERS-7/M3, the more it learns.
It reacts when the back is patted.

The more you interact with ERS-7/M3, the more it learns. AIBO uses "short and long range distance sensor" in its nose and chest to detect the edges and the wall.

Major foodborne and waterborne zoonoses

2005年11月14日(月) 9時50分
The number of reported incidents of Salmonella in cattle decreased to 1,362 (Figure 7a)
(1,479 in 2003), sheep to 281 (Figure 7b) (291 in 2003) and pigs to 174 (Figure 7c).
Some serotypes are more frequently reported from some livestock species than others as shown
in Figure 7a, 7b and 7c. – for poultry see Figure 5 above. (The percentage figures given in the
charts have been rounded to make 100% total incidents). Salmonella Dublin, which is seldom
associated with human infection, was again the most common serotype reported in cattle.
S. Typhimurium was the most common serotype recorded in pigs, and in sheep S. Enterica
subspecies diarizonae was the most frequently reported.

Seeing the Light

2005年11月07日(月) 9時45分
The top panel is an image from the Spitzer observatory of stars and galaxies in the constellation Draco, covering about 50 by 100 million light-years. This is an infrared image at a wavelength of 3.6 microns, below what the human eye can detect. The bottom panel is the result after all the forefront stars, galaxies and artifacts have been masked out. The remaining background has been enhanced to reveal a glow than cannot be attributed to modern galaxies or stars. This could be the glow of the first stars in the universe.

2006 Ford

2005年10月24日(月) 9時23分
Ford rocked the family sedan scene once before back in the 1980s with the introduction of the Taurus. While the Taurus moniker has become synonymous with "boring" in the past few years (save for the Taurus NASCAR effort, which is being phased out in favor of new Fusion NASCAR racers), the bulbous sedan offered buyers a reliable car for comparably little money.
