This is a huge win for Hublot and its CEO Ricardo Guadalupe. Hublot is making major inroads with in the NBA ― it started with Dwyane Wade and spread to his team, the Miami Heat. Then just last month Hublot announced it was Official Timekeeper of the Los angeles Lakers. So perhaps the Kobe announcement was somewhat to be expected. But now it is real. Yesterday in Berlin, Hublot and mega-successful band Depeche Mode (100+ million albums replica hublot big bang! )#) announced a special partnership to benefit charity: water, a non-profit bringing safe drinking water to the developing world. They will do this through increased awareness of the cause as well as through the sale of 250 special Big Bang “Depeche Mode” watches, proceeds of which will go to support charity: water. The watch is certainly a distinctive design ― its appeal to Depeche Mode fans is not hard to see. More importantly, let’s keep in mind that each of these 250 watches are for a good cause.

Now, let’s get to the three new models in the 45mm Big Bang Ferrari family. These models essentially carry through the same design attributes. They also reflect Hublot’s continued progress on vertical-integration: the case and movement are designed, developed, and produced in-house. What is new is the material choice ― gold, carbon fiber, and ceramic, in various combinations. I know that Hublot Chariman Jean-Claude Biver is a proponent of being first and being different (hear it from the man himself here), and this is yet another example of Hublot’s ambitions to expand its reach into new sports, new demographics, find new fans ― and of course the end game, new customers. This will certainly give Hublot great exposure to a younger audience (aspirants today, Hublot customers tomorrow! )#), in addition to the well-heeled fans and celebrties who are familiar faces at Lakers games. Indeed we have seen Hublot slowly working its way into the world of professional basketball for a couple years now, mostly with the Miami Heat organization. Now it is clear that Hublot’s ambitions within the NBA are much more.

Carbon fiber is a major point of the collection as you can see. Another one of the new Big Bang Ferrari watches is the Big Bang Ferrari Red Magic Carbon (401. QX. 0123. VR). This is the most distinctive of the new collection as it is very much an "in-house" Hublot. Each of the watches contain in-house movements, but this one features a solid carbon fiber case that was also made in-house at Hublot. One thing you'll notice if you survey various carbon fiber cases is that Hublot does the best job at highlighting the particular checkered texture that distinguishes carbon fiber as a material. This watch is also equipped with a red tinted sapphire crystal which debuted a few years back in the first Hublot Red Magic watches that we discussed here. At least now you know where the "Red Magic" name came from.

So much of the case and movement are thoughtfully designed and engineered. Hublot knew from the outset that the Ferrari relationship wasn't just a PR stunt, but a major opportunity. An opportunity to potentially align itself with an extremely powerful and well-known high-end automaker for a long time to come.
