Consumption tax

November 08 [Fri], 2013, 9:59
Sometimes I receive a question, especially from Japanese customers
if our charges include consumption tax. Actually, there is no consumption
tax on international shipments as far as Japan side is concerned.
While the rate of consumption tax in Japan will go up from 5 % to 8%
in April, 2014, it will not affect the cost of international shipments much.
In some countries, however, tax will be imposed on the destination charges
such as customs clearance charges or terminal charges at the destination
airport or ports. Also, if you purchase something new while in Japan and
you ship it to your home country or export it to your customer, the
tax on the goods you purchased could be refunded. However, this can be
a time-consuming work for something you purchase at normal stores unless
you buy at a duty free shop. If you are buying something very expensive,
it may worth it.
