Friends are better than foeってことですよ。

Parties and Okonomiyaki

October 26 [Fri], 2007, 21:59
It's Friday!!! *Yayness*
This week was another super hectic tutorial week
where I have 6 hours of tutorial+lecture in one day,
which I usually give up after the 2nd lecture and
skip the last... Time flies when you're so busy
I'm not hating it, cuz before you know it, the
weekend's here!

I haven't gone for any of the computing lecture
and I have no idea how the lecturer looks like.

Anyway, attended 2 great parties recently
where I got to know more awesome people.

Kensuke's birthday party at Timbre was great,
I love Keiko's hilariousness and
Kensuke's super welcoming friends =)
Though Ken and I wasted an hour or so waiting
and cursing the cabs at City Hall (when Timbre
was just 10mins walk from the MRT!!)

Then, a friend of kensuke brought us to this
back alley of boat quay, which was a stretch of
Chinese bars. It's like a Little China, where
everyone speaks Chinese!!! We felt kinda out
of place cuz most of us were non-Chinese
and left the bar after hearing the "say good bye"
song. Anyway, it's good to know where the
Chinese community hangs out!! ;)

Happy Kensuke
Second party was at PGP, which was a
potluck Party organized by Akari.
She's my best friend in school now and
she used to live across the street back
in Nagasaki. It's such a miracle that I
found her in NUS. We share so much in
common!!

We had BBQ Chicken, Miso soup, Natto Rice
and Okonomiyaki!!
The Osaka born Sri Lankan-Japanese, Ken,
made most of the Okonomiyaki and it tasted
so good!!!

You don't get much chances to have 2 guys
cooking for you!!

Voila!! Mouth watering Okonomiyaki with Cheese!!

Anyway, I was talking to this girl Nana, from Cambodia
during the party, and she's a living travel guide, who
seems to know every single detail about every corner
of Cambodia! I have this urge to fly over after hearing
that Ankorwat will be closing down soon for restoration...

I love my friends

October 24 [Wed], 2007, 1:40
Everyday's basically been a cycle of
lectures, tutorials, library and sleep.
Everyone's complaining about the crazy
shit loads of school work and how LDMR is setting in.

Mom was asking me about friends I made in university
during our walk after dinner. I was thinking hard, and
realized that for the past 2 years, the number of friends
I made in NUS could be counted with one hand...
I mean Singaporean friends, whom I could hang-out with
during lunch time and have a nice cup of coffee during
the weekend. Okay, it's probably only 2 or 3, excluding
my friends from JC and secondary school.

Well, I'm not anti-social, but I guess when you already
have a little circle of friends, you tend confine yourself
to your comfort zone. After all, with the crazy hell lot of
readings and essays, how much friendship and understandings
can you make out of the 4 tutorials which take place fortnightly?

Sad to say that I haven't had much sit-down lunch with
Singaporeans this semester...err..probably twice??
That's cuz everyone's not taking the same course
and everyone's not in school!

On the other hand, my circle of international friends
is expanding since last year, and it has made my
university life much more exciting :)

Someone asked me, why do I bother, since the exchange
students are only gonna be here for 2 semesters or 1
for most American & European students, and they'd be
gone next year, and you have to start making new friends
again.

I think friendship is not a matter of time but how deep
a connection you have with that person. Even if you've
only met that person for a day, or even if you live in two
worlds apart, friendship can still be deepened if you make
an effort to do so. I've met and made and still meeting
a couple of really good exchange friends whom
I believe would have great influence for the rest of my life.
Once a friend said, friendship isn't quantity, but quality.
Yeah, and it's not how you let go, but how you hold on.
MSN and snail mail is such a great invention to
keep in touch!

I'll be saying good-bye to some of them in less than
2 months' time. Though I'm secretly hoping that they
would extend their stay for another semester which 99.9%
would only happens in my dreams.
So, I'm taking each day slowly and enjoying my
every minute and every second with them right now :)

Anyway, Mom's been asking me these days
if there's any guy(Singaporean) I fency in school.

Nope.

I have a couple of "hi, bye" male friends, but don't
exactly have a "let's go have lunch" friends
even to start with..

But I'm happy with my life now,
I have a bunch of really good friends to fall back on,
so I'm not complaining ;o)

And don't worry Mom,
I'm PERFECTLY STRAIGHT!!

My boat quay adventure and some Kimchi

October 16 [Tue], 2007, 0:12

Tzvtana, Ran, Christy
Didn't go geylang in the end, cuz Toma disappeared to JB.*lol*
Got a text from Peter and we decided to have some Jellyfish
at sushi tei and listen to some bands.
(The kids just wanted to get out of campus!)

We took a walk from Raffels city to boat quay. It's quite a nice
stroll at night, and the columns of the supreme court and the roads
on both sides made me feel like we were in Europe. haha

We went to this bar called 'home club', where Kanna's friend's band
was performing. The club was mostly Asians and I bet
Tzvtana and Pete felt out of place.
Pete said that he's been always wanting to know how it feels to
be being a minority... well... voila~

We then headed down to Harrys' which was kind of an
Expat's bar, where Christy and I were the minority now...
Being minority.... is no fun!
Out of the point, but I ordered "Virgin Mary" and it turned
out to be Tomato Juice with celery...
I felt cheated, but glad that it was non-alcoholic,
and Pete said celery has negative calories!!!!!

Then, I went to Arirang (not sure if it's spelt this way),
the authentic Korean restaurant at Amoy street,
which I went with Mars and her mom some time back.
I had difficulty talking to the lady boss cuz she spoke
Korean, so I called Mars's mom for help and she helped
me settle the menu :)

The kimchi soup thing was so good that though
it was really spicy, we finished it all!!
We had to refill 3 bottles of the Korean tea to finish
this pot of Kimchi toufu soup!

That's Kanna and Mutsumi, (they're sisters!!) and
photo taken by Taiki (my useless little brother,
as they claim him to be), who concluded that
Kimchi makes the skin smooth
(after looking at the flawless complexion of the
lady boss' daughter.)

Aight.... time for essays.... *sigh*

weekend

October 12 [Fri], 2007, 1:02
I just had the most embarrassing moment of my life
a few days ago, when I went up to this guy and
started rambling about my bad day in school,
only to realize that I've been talking to a stranger after 5 mins...
He was patiently listening to my ramblings and he was like,
"Oh...that's not sweet. By the way, I'm Luke."

I've mistaken him to my another friend, cuz they have the same
hairstyle and height....
It was so embarrassing that I wish I could dig a hole on the floor
and disappear inside!!!

All the caucasians looks the same!!!! I have difficulty
recognising them...

But well, I guess we're all in the same situation.
Peter said that he can't tell the Chinese, Korean and Japanese apart,
and Toma can't differentiate between Chinese and Malay.
Whatever it is, I'm happy for now that I can tell both of
them apart.

Anyway, Im planning to explore Geylang with Toma
this weekend. Any reccomendations on which is the most
"exciting" Lorong?? And anyone wants to join?? =)

I'm so hungry but I can't eat cuz I of the ulcer on my lips...
It's been there since last week and it hurts like hell... Dammit.

Reading Week and crazy friends

October 05 [Fri], 2007, 0:36
I cant believe i spent my recess week in the library
EVERYDAY.... and the library is so packed that
I have to be there before 10am just so I could get a
PLUG for my laptop... wth...
studying in school is much more productive than at home,
at least I got some essays done...!

Anyway, it was a crazy week nevertheless, lots of
Birthdays, shoe shopping and too much fun!! so much that
i can't switch back to my study mode.

Here's some pictures of Leigh's yoga guru
taken in Botanic Garden. It was also my first trip to the
man-made garden of Singapore, where lots of
Philippino were having picnics.
I'm utterly disgusted and impressed at
how flexible the guru is. His legs seem to be made of rubber.
Yoga is good. And so is being a vegetarian.
cuz it gives you excuses to eat PEANUTS!
(source of protein)

and then, there was Leigh's Indian Summer party.

and Mars & Mira's birthday dinner at Sakura!

Hey girls, I've uploaded the pictures here

Dog food and capitalism

September 21 [Fri], 2007, 1:33

Do you know that dogs actually only needs corn and beans
to stay healthy?

Do you know that those Tinned Dog foods on the shelf
actually prevent dogs from pooping too much?

Do you know that after eating those fancy dog food
of exciting flavours, your dog's faeces actually hardens?

Do you know that those Tinned Dog foods on the shelf
are actually engineered in a way that fit the lifestyle of
the owner?

So you don't have a dog who poops all over and stink
up your house, and there's no hassel picking up
their hard faeces.

That's how capitalism is trying to make money
out of every aspects of our lives.

Are you enjoying what you're doing?

September 16 [Sun], 2007, 3:25
Finally got my ass down to do some work,
and finished my report for presentation next week!
Lots of readings to catch-up though....
Next week's my busy tutorial week... Dammit!!

Met G.T for dinner at a Mexican restaurant in hollandV.
One of my favourite restaurant in SG =)
It's got to be good since this friend of mine with super
fussy taste-bud enjoyed the food!
Or should I say he was just thrilled with the exotic cuisine?
I pointed to some random menu since we didn't
understand it, at it was all good!

This friend of mine, is annoying 78% of the time
but yet, is someone who earns my respect.
He's probably one of my few Japanese friends who
SPEAKS HIS MIND!!! (Sometimes he can be so overly
frank that it sounds sarcastic and irritating...
so much that if you're not super tolerant, you prob
would have punched him in the face! HAHAHA)

I respect people who has a strong believe and know
what they want in life, and working hard for their
aspirations, and G.T's one of them.

Despite the opposition from families and relatives,
he's determined to pursue his career as an athlete.
To him, study is a life long process, which you can do
at any point of your life. But career as an athlete
only has a short lifespan and it's something you can do
only when you're young, alive and kicking, which also
applies to dancers, flight attendants, models etc.
To him, interest and passion is of higher importance,
rather than following the market demand for
specialized pool of people. My favourite quote
of G.T is "I only live once, and I don't know
what would happen tomorrow. So why should I
pay to do something I don't see the necessity
(going to Uni) and make myself suffer?"

Though I don't agree with some of his views,
(especially his refusal to donate to charity,
claiming that it's their fault of not working hard.)
he's one friend who always motivate me to think
out of the box and take a step out of my
comfort zone and look at things from the
new perspective.

Well, hope he would be able to find a
good team when he goes back to Japan,
(and I believe that he will, cuz he's talented)
and YES, I'm enjoying what I'm studying!!!
Though I FASS wasn't my first choice
and neither was my current major.
But I'm starting to like what I'm doing
and I guess interest could be cultivated.
At least I've found what I wanna be
and it motivates me to work harder
to bring myself closer to that goal.
(though I would be happier if they made
all exams open-book!!)

自分の夢を目指して一生懸命がんばってる友達からいつも
勇気とパワーを分けてもらってます。

みんなありがとう!

Hmm... bitter-sweet
