Good evening... / in my senior year of college, / I [had to write] a final report / for an economics class. / I decided to analyze U.S. trade policy. / Well, I did lots of research, / recorded all my findings, / carefully developed a thesis, / and at last, / pulled everything together / and began writing. / I was using a word processor for the project, and one morning I turned it on only to find that everything -- I mean everything -- had become random garble overnight. It was as if someone had placed a bomb in my computer. All of my research, all of my writing, and all of my dreams of a successful paper were gone.
Tonight I'd like to talk to you about the growing problem of computer viruses. More important, I want to show you how you can avoid becoming a victim of today's modern technological plague.
