The Fellowship of the Ring By J. R. R. Tolkien - Best Fantasy & Scifi Books

As the first in a three book series, Fellowship of the Ring takes place in Middle Earth where a dark lord hopes to gain possession of a ring he can use to control the population. A hobbit named Bilbo Baggins transfers ownership of the ring to his cousin Frodo who is tasked by Gandolf the Grey to remove the ring from the shire, taking it away from the dark lord, Sauron.

The book follows the journey of Frodo and his friends in their attempt to transport this powerful ring. The hobbits manage to lose their way in the Old Forest and have to be rescued. This journey rarely goes as planned.

Their trip is eventful and stressful. This is evident in one of my favorite parts of the book, when Frodo attempts to go unnoticed, but ends up involved in a rowdy song, falls, and accidentally ends up with the powerful ring on his finger. This causes him to disappear, thus drawing much unneeded and unwanted attention to himself.

This is an engaging and intricate story of a fantasy land that would be enjoyed by anyone age 12 and up. The text is compelling and complex.
