One of the case study done by Mitosis in the period of Dec 2012- Feb 2013 was Nestle KitKat. For the KitKat Malaysia campaign their key objective was to engage with audience of 16-30 years old who like KitKat. They needed to create a campaign to increase the engagement of KitKat's Malaysia's Facebook fan page from its low engagement rate . They had to find genuine Kitkat fans and break away from the trend of giving gadgets to buy fans. When this research was done with the help of social listening tools, they discovered that there was already a strong and passionate positive sentiment for KitKat on social media. They created the KitKat 1,00,000 Grand brick campaign in order to attract true KitKat fans to participate and engage with the fan page and win upto 1,00,000 KitKats. The campaign began with the launch of the KitKat Treasure Island Board Game on Facebook. The game was simple in which the players would roll to race against a purple pirate around the island with 2 simple objectives; to pass the "Go" sign as many times as possible will evading capture by the pirate. The more times they complete the circuit, the more KitKat bricks they would win. If caught by the pirate, the players would have to perform a social media action. Players can also invite friends to help them free them and play along for more rewards. Their social actions helped to amplify the awareness of the campaign and increased brand loyalty by rewarding the players.
